ritualzzz (2024)
Ritulazzz is a web-based, participatory project inspired by the social structures, abilities, and behaviors of insects by artist collective Fathom Sounds. Ritulazzz invites audiences of all ages to reflect on our culture of extraction through the lens of insect life. Guided by an insect, participants enter another realm, where they receive instructions that may heighten their awareness of sensory connections and perceptual shifts. Insects don’t just survive—they thrive in ways that might have something to teach us about resilience, adaptation and sustainability. As we navigate a time of collective change, Ritulazzz asks us to consider how we can take cues from these tiny beings and reconsider our relationship with the world around us.
Created by Fathom Sounds (Alana Bartol, Kat Morris, Genevieve Robertson, Nancy Tam, Jay White) in collaboration with Joni Schinkel, Ritulazzz connects participants to the overlooked wisdom of insects and invites you to think beyond human perspectives. Fathom Sounds is a multidisciplinary art collective that thinks long term about the roles artists play in responding to urgent ecological, political and social issues in this time of environmental crisis.
